CAMEL FIGHT (WRESTLING)
We see that camel wrestling, which has been going on for 4000 years in Turkish culture, reaches up to
4000 BC in world history. An indispensable companion for nomadic peoples, camels are known in Turkish
culture for their carriage and wrestling festivals. It is estimated that the wrestling, especially in the Aydın region,
started with the increasing camel population near the port city.
The people watching the show of power between the camels in the pasture areas of the nomadic communities as
entertainment turns it into a festival over time. Another festival of the region is the Bullfights.
These wrestlings allow the animals to show their natural show of strength. These wrestlings are held periodically
because the animals that cannot wrestle get nervous and harm themselves.
